So how long do you pee for? I never thought I’d ask that question in an email or any other situation. One of my rules of life is to never stop learning and teaching so here is the result of that. I came across an article…Scientists say everyone should follow ’21 second rule’ when peeing to stay healthy. I don’t know how critical it is to follow the rule exactly but I do have to admit that I had to time myself to find out if I am using my bladder properly. It’s a very easy test, I bet that during your next trip to the toilet, you’ll find yourself counting.
It turns out that after studying animal urination habits that if you are an animal that weighs more than 6.6 lbs that you pee for 21 seconds. Smaller animals do their business in just a fraction of that time.
Why is this interesting? Well, the researchers see this trend as being helpful in assessing your own urination habits. If you only last 10 seconds, maybe you are peeing too often and are training your bladder to be more sensitive to a bladder that is not really full. As we get older our bladders are more sensitive and training your body to hold on a little longer may help you wake up less times to urinate when you are older.
If you pee for let’s say 45 seconds, maybe you should think about going to urinate more often. Holding in your pee can lead to urinary tract infections.
You can read the article for more details. Most of the emails I compose reinforce the same general rules for healthy living.
